ceramic floor tile

i have been reading some of the answers here subflooring for ceramic tile and think i might have a problem. i thought there was 3/4 plywood then 1/2in particle board which i'm taking up and replacing with 1/2in plywood,problem is it's not 3/4 plywood but 3/4 x 12in boards spaced about 3/16ths to 1/4in apart. is this going to be sufficent.

Those boards are going to move around. Giving you an unstable subsurface for ceramic tile. To stay in spec you really need to cover the planks with 3/4" plywood, then put your backerboard or ditra over the plywood.

so your telling me to pull up the 3/4 x 12 boarding and put down 3/4 plywood then the 1/2in plywood? not sure what you mean.

Removing Ceramic Tile

Does anyone out there know the best method of removing an entire floor of ceramic tile? It is 12" ceramic laid on a cement foundation - using thinset I assume. We want to remove the entire floor and replace it with new tile, and tile over tile is not an option due to height. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

the countertop is in excellant shape, other than it is out dated. Did you find it cheaper to tile it your self, by roughing up the surface and placing ceramic tile on top or is it cheaper to just replace the entire thing professionally. Lifiting the sink is not a problem. All of the edges are at 90 degrees. Is there a step by step instructions on what to buy and how to go about doing this. We also intend to foe the existing wall tile on the wall. Please advise.
