two different thicknesses of tile

I'm working on tiling my bathroom and I'm considering doing the tub surround in 4x4 regular field tile, with a 4" wide row of 1" mosaic tiles on the second to the outermost row to make a sort of border. The tiles are two different thicknesses. Can anyone advise me on how to go about doing this, or perhaps tell me if it's a dumb idea?

thanks for any advice,
m

Just leave that area out when you set the other tile. Get a stick and make a notch in it the thickness you need to build-up to. Get some thinset and build it up. Don't worry about pretty, just flat.
