We want to redo our second floor bathroom, that is replace the tile and fixtures. It currently has ceramic tile on the floor, shower and in the roman tub which is part of the shower. The floor tiles are mounted on a subfloor(?) that is like soft mortar with plywood underneath. The tiles on the walls I am assuming are glued on to the gyboard or probably cement backing board. What is the easiest way to remove ceramic tile from the floor and the wall? I was thinking about a hammer and cold chisel -- for the floor -- is there an easier way? I thought about renting an electric jack hammer but was wondering if this would be using a tank to kill a fly!!! What about the wall tiles? Do you just pry them off? Can you get enough leverage with a pry bar or will it just sink into the wall? Any help toward my questions would be greatly appreciated. I'm sure some of you have encountered similar situations. Hello, My name is george, I am trying to create a mosaic design over a painted concrete path, for my granddaughter. Question 1. will I need to do anything to the ensure that the 'bedding mixture' sticks to the painted concrete. Question 2. What do I use to 'bed' the mosaic tiles (ordinary floor and wall tiles cut down to usable size approx 1") onto the painted concrete. Question 3. Does the mix have to be a certain thickness, I will be making stepping stones, so the mosaic will not be walked on. I will be using 1" high battening, is that thick enough. Question 4. I intend to use 2" x 1" battening to contain each mosaic design, about 3' square, the path is 6' wide, what do you suggest to fill the gaps where the battening will have left, when I remove the battening. Question 5. what type of grout do I use, to finish the mosaic, and do I need to seal everything when I have finished. I would appreciate any feedback, no matter have trivial, I am a complete novice at this type of enterprise, But a promise is a promise, and I would love to be able to see the 'smilie face' on my granddaughter, if I could achieve her suggestion.
