Grouting problems

I am tiling the kitchen. Half of the grouting is done. I used a colored grout, a tan color. It appears as if there is a shading in the grout all over. I am not sure that it is white as I have seen in questions. It just appears somewhat varied. I mixed up the grout very well by hand. I did not see any dry spots in the mix. I am not sure if I used too much water, it was the consistency of peanut butter. I was also wondering if I should remix the grout for the rest of the kitchen with the same consistency so there is no variation and use something to try and get the color more even, what do you think??? Any advice would be wonderful.

Hi Vicki,

Your problem is not unusual. I would mix the remainder of the grout and finish the job. I wouldn't change anything at this time.

When all of the grout has dried a couple days, you can use an acid cleaner available at Home Depot or Lowes to clean the surface of the joints. I think you'll find that the discoloration does not go into the joints. It's only on the surface.

MIXING
Mix solution in a plastic container using clean, warm water. Don't mix in metal container. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection. For removal of light mineral deposits and Portland cement grout haze or mortar residue on unglazed quarry or glazed tile with colored grout, mix 2 to 3 oz. (57 to 85 gm)
