Tile over tile?

Tile over tile?
Dumb question, I'm sure. But our kitchen tile has to go. Since it seems awfully difficult to uproot old tile, I was wondering if it is at all possible (or an easier route) to lay tile over tile. I'd love to do wood floors, but as soon as I bought a book on trying to install it myself, I completely understand why they charge more for installation than materials. Next alternative.
If it is not advisable to lay tile over tile, are there any fairly simple, inexpensive ways to improve the look of a kitchen floor? We're looking to sell our house for more room, so we don't want to dump a fortune into cosmetic repairs.
Thanks

Hi
A tile installation is only as good as the floor you put the tile on...so if the tile that's there now is in good shape and is crack free, you can go on top. If it's a high gloss tile, you should rough up the surface first, but thin set will stick to it.
