wiping grout

Laid black ceramic 12" tile in 8 x9 foyer on diagonal. Job went well but I can't get the grout completely cleaned from tile surface. It's like a mirror that keeps getting streaked. The tile was not cleaned before installatin which I now realize was a mistake but here I am. Is there a product or method that will speed this process? It does look a little better with each scrubbing (water). I have been reluctant to use strong solvents. Suggestions?

Thanks.

There is a product for cleaning the haze off of tile that you should be able to get at your nearest H-D or Lowes. It should be back where the tile is near the grout sealer. It might be worth a try.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I tried that before the posting and it didn't help. It's like the grout (film?) has almost bonded to the tile. I am going to try some mineral spirits in a trial area.

Mineral spirits won't do a thing. If the grout haze remover previously mentioned doesn't work, and you've tried white vinegar and water (half and half), move on to sulfamic acid cleaner. Get it at a tile store. Try the vinegar first.

Thanks John Bridge!! Tried the vinegar/water solution and tile looks new again. I was getting worried after feeling so good before grouting having made all those cuts and triangles. Thank you so much for your help.

Unhappy goofed up tile floor installation

Had a friend install 12 inch tile in my kitchen. It got late after grouting and he waited until next day to remove. Big mistake...Most of the grout remains. Kinda has that southwest look, so I was contemplating painting with sponge paint to make it look more authentic, then sealing, but my local hardware store doesn't recommend as it will wear off. My other option is to try to remove the grout on top of the tile to have a smooth surface then seal. Any ideas? I hate to redo the floor if there is another way.

batinas reply / problem

Check the earlier responses and you will find some good advice. Sounds like you may be beyond vinegar and water though. May have to resort to the acid wash from a good tile store. Good luck.
