wall paper

I live in a drafty concrete building. There is an interior wall that is damp, sometimes gets molding etc. I attempted to paint it another colour besides white but it really emphasized the imperfections so I am now thinking about using the wallpaper that looks like paint. Anyway, is it a bad idea to use wall paper on a damp wall that tends to mold?

Just a year ago, I would say yes. Now, I will tell you that you can. The products that make this possible are mildew-proof primer and adhesives and wallcovering that is very resistant to mildew due to it's breatheability.

The primer and adhesive you should use is by Zinsser.

The wallpaper TYPE (not to be confused with pattern or appearance) is the new non-woven type. This is made by several manufacturers to include:

York

Cavalier
http://www.wallliner.com/

Parch-tek
http://www.parchtek.com/

Johns Manville Wallcoverings

Eisenhart

There may be other manufacturers out there as well because non-wovens are catching on here. They have been out for years in Europe.

I recommend you ask for them at a wallpaper store or paint store with a dedicated wallpaper associate. SPECIFY non-woven wallpaper to the associate. Non-woven refers to the substrate that the paper is made of. Expect resistance from your retailer due to the recent marketing of these wallpapers. You might even print this page out as a reminder. Tell the associate to visit my site and get edumicated on the latest wallpaper types. If you still receive blank looks or statements like, "You don't really need that", then pick up the phone and call York Wallcoverings at 800 375-YORK or Ed Hovnanian from Cavalier at 800 221-5798.
