I am planning to put wall paper on new concrete wall. Do I have to apply some smooth coating to wall before hanging the wall paper?

Shaaz, I don't think you will find anyone that has done this. I stongly urge you do something else.

No matter what you do, the paper will not last very long. Concrete in porous. Even if you don't have water problems, you can stiil have enough moisture coming in to cause the paste to fail. Even the best (non-epoxy) paints will peel in a few years.

Some concrete will shed a dust. This is caused by several factors when its poured. This will cause the bond to fail.

The paper will show every imperfection in the wall.

In addition to all of the above there are acids in concrete that never quit reacting.
