Wallpaper Substrate Options?

I have a 3 season cottage and so drywall is not a good substrate. I understand that plywood that has been properly primed and lined is an good option. Are there other substrates such as white "hardboard" - "masonite" that would also work and if so, would the prep be similar to plywood?
Thanks.

If you like the look, OSB could be used, it's a little bit waterproof and cheaper than plywood.

For interior you could get away with very thin material!

Welcome to the forums Jay!

Why do you think drywall isn't suitable? As long as it's painted and kept dry it should hold up fine during both hot and cold exposure.

Thanks.I like drywall but this is a 55 year old cottage I am renovating and with drywall I have the added task of taping and finishing (dust) in a space in an existing occupied area. A "panel" of some kind would be easier even if a little more expensive. I might even use 1/4" GS1 plywood.

Thanks. I think OSB has a little too "rough" a finish.
