Paste to Wall Prep

Hi, have wallpapered many times using conventional wallpaper that you paste and hang, Have now been tasked with hanging new style paste the wall wallpaper. Not a problem in the application, just the preparation. The existing old 'paper comes off a treat but there is lining paper underneath with a lint like/peach fuzz texture now the original wallpaper has been removed. Please advise the best way to prepare, should I wipe with water and vinegar to remove the 'lint' - should I then seal with water/PVA (would love recommendations of ratios if so)?

I would like to keep the existing lining paper (even though it was hung vertically) to save time.

(First post- be gentle with me please).

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums!
If I understand the question correctly you need to get the liner wet and it should easily scrape off with a drywall knife.

Thank you Marker, that answers the question regarding the liner paper.

Do you have any suggestions regarding the necessity of a PVA / water seal, and if so what ratio?

Many thanks in anticipation - LondonPlane

That isn't something I'm familiar with other than PVA primers/paints being low quality. A well sealed wall will be easier to strip wallpaper off of when that day comes.

Hi Marker, it's just that I don't want the paste to wall paste to be absorbed into the liner and the paper not adhere properly...

Appreciate your help Marker, hopefully someone else can advise re seal priming?

All the best - LondonPlane
