I have a textured ceiling and am wondering if I could spackle it or something and make it smooth.

Dear Parkershorse,
I had the joy of removing spackling from three walls in my newly purchased home by first squirting water on the walls and then alternatively scraping with a drywall mud knife, putty knife and wet sanding the walls until they were smooth. Frankly, NEXT time I would just rip the dry wall down and start new (but maybe that's just me)! It was a big mess removing all that drywall mud and a mask was definitely needed during the process as well as covering everything.
Maybe you're on the right track by just smoothing new spackle over the existing stuff, although I don't know how you can keep the application level (especially on a ceiling).
Good luck, my friend!
