remove texture coating from exterior walls

We recently purchased a house and it is completely covered with texture coating. It goes over every exterior wall, all exterior wooden storage cabinets, wood panels and even over some wooden window frames.

I would like to get rid of as much of it as possible. What is the best solution for the individual problem zones? Sanding? Plastering over it?

Removing textured coating

Depending upon the type of surfaces on which the textured coating has been applied, you are looking at lots of sanding, scraping, and stripping.

stucco over the texture coating?

After sanding the texture coating, is it enough to repaint, or does it have to be re-stuccoed?

Is there a way to plaster or stucco directly over the texture coating (without sanding first)? It's in good condition and 'rough' enough to hold a new layer ...
