How to Remove Large Piece of Drywall Intact

My fiance had a large (6'X 5') mural painted on the bedroom wall. We are planning to purchase another house. We would like to take this mural with us.

Is it possible to cut out the section of drywall wihtout destroying the mural?

If so, we thought about simply mounting the drywall on a piece of plywood after it is removed.

We are both clueless as to whether this is a realistic plan. Please help.

for something that size your mural has to be on 2 different pieces of wallboard so even if it were possible to cut a couple dozen screws or nails that hold the wallboad on the studs from the back, i don't think you would be at all happy with the result.

my advice- take a picture, have it blown up and take that with you.

Dickh is right. Even if you were able to remove both sections of drywall the joint tape would pull apart at the seam and ruin your mural. Take a picture, fram it, paint a new mural in your new house and hang the picture of the old next to the new!

Good luck in your new house.
