I have a long closet in my upstairs room and was wondering what I can do to support the bar that runs the length of it. The previous owners tried to support it with a metal band that wrapped around the middle of the bar and then screwed it into the sloped ceiling, but that isnt working well and looks like #$#@$@. Anyone have any ideas or web sites to send me to? Thank you. Dean

Just bought a house that has popcorn ceiling in living/dining/entry. The ceiling has been painted and we had it tested for asbestos (yes, it's got asbestos). So - we thought either pay someone to take it out (that's $$$) or put up a new ceiling over it. Has anyone ever done this? Pros/Cons? We won't be doing it ourselves, we are getting a quote from a contractor so not asking about the job, just things like does it lower the ceiling too much? It's a standard height right now (9 foot?). The contractor says to use 1/2 inch boards, we originally though 1/8 but he said it wouldn't be strong enough. thx, Sissy
