ceiling repair
I removed the recessed lighting in my bathroom, leaving a large hole in the ceiling. Any ideas on how to repair it?

Stick a small piece of wood (1x2) up into the hole and across the opening overlapping the back a few inches on each side. Attach the wood to the existing ceiling with drywall screws. Cut a piece of drywall to fit the opening (you may be able to buy smaller scrap pieces at the Depot) and attach it to the board. Tape the seams and apply joint compound over the tape and screws. Feather it out in three coats and sand the final coat smooth.
This may require a little modification for plaster. There are 50+ other ways to do this. This is the one that comes to mind first. Some will swear they have been using their method for 30 years, therefore it's the only way.
