Drywall rests on subfloor?

I've heard a few ways of doing this. Is there a right way? When putting up drywall, should the bottom wall sheets rest right on the subfloor or be spaced about a 1/4" off the floor? Does it make a difference, this is for a bathroom. Opinions please!

Give it at least an inch clearance from the floor. If you would ever have a water leak, the rock would soak it up and stain your walls.

The whole inch makes more sense than the 1/4", the purpose for the space explains it! Thanks!!
