To tint or not tint the primer?

Wow, what a great site. I have visited here in the past but it seams to have grown!

I just stripped all the wallpaper out of our master bedroom and cleaned up the walls real good. Patched up all the imperfections and what not and now ready for paint.

Before I do, I am thinking about putting a coat of primer. I'll be painting the wall a darker shade of blue and picked up a reg. can of primer (all latex btw).

I have read about using a tinted primer and was wondering if anyone has any advice on this or is it all hype? I have painted darker colors over white before w/o primer and have had good results.

Tinting the primer toward that finish color will help ensure that the color covers well. Don't get it the same color, just close. You want to be sure you know where the primer ends and the paint starts.
