drywall ceiling
Is it ok to attach drywall directly to the ceiling joists? I have seen insturctions on how to attach to furring strips along the joist, but would rather not give up any more head room than necessary.
Also, are you supposed to put a vapor shield / plastic sheathing along the ceiling as is done on the wall?

Thanks for your comments!
Just got paranoid as I had already begun placying the drywall on the ceiling directly to the joists.
I do wish, however, I had used the furring strips. I planned ahead enough to run wiring for the planned light fixtures, but if those plans change any time in the future, it would be much easier to run wiring through the open spaces between the ceiling and the joists that the furring strips would provide.
Live and learn!
