Haning brackets on Adobe Walls??

Ok, I am going to be hanging some brackets for a family friend in her kitchen. She lives in a old house that has TRUE adobe walls.
What kind of screws can I use to hold in the walls?
I am also afraid of drilling pilot holes since i think the walls will just crumble.

Any suggestions would be very helpfull!

Thanks!!

If the wall won't survive being drilled, it won't tolerate any other load. Plastic anchors in drilled holes with screws. If the load is to be great enough, lead anchors may be required.
