Question Need crown molding advice

I am installing crown molding throughout my house but have run into a situation that I am not sure how to handle.

I have my heat/ac registers on the cieling and in two places they are only 2 inches from the wall. This puts them into my crown moldings path. I am not sure how to handle this.

Options I have thought of (but am not completely happy with) are:
1) Stop the molding at each edge of the register. Basically making a gap in the molding.

2) Notch out the molding. Not sure about this as the register would blow hot/cold are into the crown molding channel.

Does anyone have any other neat ideas in dealing with this situation???

I'd say that second option would be your best bet given your situation, you've already started installing the crown molding right? To keep your vent from blowing in behind the molding, you could just tape the inside of the grate with duct tape over to where the edge of the molding.

Just an idea, I'd agree that stopping the molding on either side of the vents would look really bad, only other option is to go with a small molding. Good luck.
