finally a drywall ceiling

after careful thorough investigation I am puting up drywall ceiling
I have to fur down the joists to clear a couple of pipes. just checking my methods

furring strips perpendicular to ceiling joists
drywall ceiling before walls
greenboard ceiling in bathroom
1/2in thick drywall all around

any othe basic tips tricks and suggestions

I am no expert on codes, but you might check to see if yours requires 5/8" rock on the ceiling.

Generally speaking, I've always heard that greenboard on the ceiling will sag with time. Not speaking from experience, just what I've heard.

New construction in this area rarely if ever uses greenboard on ceilings, you usually only find it used in custom homes & commercial work. Truthfully, I'm not all that sure that it's actually going to hold up against water all that much better than regular rock.

JMO there. 1/2" rock is used for lids in alot of new residential stuff these days. Although your better builders specify 1/2" anti-sag rock. You have to get it from a drywall supply yard, it's not available generally from a lmbr yd or big box store.
