I'm in the process of remodeling a bedroom. I've got it gutted, rewired, & (mostly) insulated. I want to shim the drywall with plaster lath on the interior walls so that I don't have to remove & rip down the door jams. What should I use to fasten the lath to the studs? Most of the lath still has the old nails in it; can I use them? And, what length of screw should I use to attach the drywall? The lath is roughly 5/16 thick, and I plan to use 1/2" drywall. On the ceiling I plan to run 1x4's perpendicular to the joists to make shimming easier. What length screws should I use to attach the boards to the ceiling, and the drywall to the boards?

I have catherdral ceilings and have to reccurring cracks one is in corner of ceiling where sheets meet, the other appears to be "following" seam in 2 seperate pieces of drywall. I've fixed them twice and am afraid that I'll need to do more then tape and "patch" in order to prevent them from reappearing. I was hoping that there was some sort of flexible material perhaps a caulk that would allow movement w/o constantly cracking - any ideas? Kathy
