drywall alternative in basement?
does anyone know of a good one? I am trying to avoid hanging drywall and finishing, painting...

Wood paneling, or it's a bit pricey & you won't get it at the big box, but you could go with vinyl clad drywall. Has a washable vinyl face and the seams are taken care of with a vinyl trim piece that inserted between sheets as you stand them up. Then you put up a suspended ceiling & you've got a maintenance free walls & lid in your basement.
As I say this method is easier than conventional drywall & you eliminate the finishing & painting, but be prepared, costs about 2-3 times as much. You'll have to get it from a sheetrock supplier.
