walls and 2 by 4s
Hi. I need to install a 36 inch shower pan in an area that is 1.5 inches too small. Can I remove the 2 by 4's in that 36 inch area and simply turn them and double them up, so I can gain the extra 3/4ths inch on each side do I can install this shower? I basically want to turn the studs and use 2 studs so that there is still support. Unless I can trimm shower pan 3/4ths of an inch on left an right side.
thanks \david

I'm no genius but I dont see why you couldnt. I have one wall in my spare bedroom that has the 2x4's turned sidways against the block wall..Unless it is a load wall the only reason those studs are there is to hang sheetrock on so turning them should be a big deal..but i'd wait for a second opinion if I were you..

Hello InspectorJ,
Go for the plan you have it will work much better than trying to trim the shower pan. What are the finished shower walls going to be tile? If so I'd use cbu there instead of drywall. Good luck & post back if ya still got ??'s.
