textured ceiling

I am ready to texture the drywall on my ceiling. How thick should the compound be? Is thicker better?

Also, I primed the drywall first; but not a very thick coat. Should I add a second coat of that as well?

Spraying texture depends upon the desired finish of the area. For new construction, we thin down Lite joint coumpound to something like an oatmeal thickness, but really it's best to do some experimenting on some scrap drywall to get the finish that you're looking for before putting it on the wall.

Here's a pretty good link on the process,

Good luck
