our cabing was built in the 50's with 1/4"
cedar boards-toung and groove. It has been
exposed (but not badly damaged) to sun, salt
air and fireplace smoke over the years. It is in desperate need of cleaning and restoring. I have contacted several stores and suppliers with no luck. Please help!
What are the best steps to cleaning the wood?
Thanks!

Dan:

Assuming the wood was never finished, see if you can find a product called Kleenzwood. Best bet is a home center or hardware store. I've used it to remove grading marks from raw lumber over the years and it works well.

This stuff is highly flammable, so take care.

If the wood has been finished, Murphy's oil soap is what I would suggest.
