Paint comes off of the interior doors in strips of this house we bought. Plan to strip and paint them again. Probably should use a primer of some sort? Not sure what kind of paint is underneath. Is there a generic primer to use on either latex or oil based paints? If I strip and then sand - would that be enough to make new latex paint adhere to doors? Sure don't want to do this twice.

MaryP, without knowing just why the paint is peeling, its hard to make recommendations.

Are these doors painted or stained underneath the peeling paint? Are they bathroom/laundry room doors?

Go ahead and strip them. Then sand with 320 or 400 grit sandpaper. Make sure all the sanding dust is off. Prime with a good primer. I recommend Kilz, one of the zinsser primers (such as BIN), or Benjamin Moore's Fresh Start. A day or so after you prime the doors, lightly sand again with 400 grit. Paint with a quality latex paint.
