spackle vs mud
#1
I've been redoing my kitchen. I tore down the drywall where i removed tile above sink and else where. Now, after removing wallpaper, I find that there is something resembling semi-gloss paint on the drywall. When I patch in the new drywall, what do I use to join the new surface to the old. Is there any difference between spackle and mud? I don't know if this old area has paint, sizing, or primer,
because these "nice" folks didn't finish any other wall in the house that they put wallpaper on. What a mess. Thanks, Sue

Either mud or spackle will work. Spackle usually comes in smaller containers. Mud comes in a one or 5 gallon bucket. Or you can even mix your own!
If the area is large enough, I'd mud it. If you're going for any texture, spackle won't due.
