Last year I had the exterior painted. There is a large crack in the wall and the paint is already flaking off. Also the rendering underneath is now starting to come off too.

What materials do I need to repair this and what can I do to stop the paint flaking off so quickly again?

Didn't really give enough info to really understand what is going on.

The crack is a puzzle, without actually seeing the installation couldn't even hazard a guess.

The paint may be as simple as no primer, poor prep work or putting water based latex over old work without the proper primer.

One cause sometimes is water vapor being forced through during the winter from the inside where the house has no vapor barrier and not much insulation in the walls.

That can cause short term paint failure in about the time frame you describe.

Really need more info on type paint used, condition at painting and use of primer yes/no and its type.

Sounds like a cheap one coat make it look good job. Sorry, calls them as I sees them.
