I am in the process of removing a load bearing wall in the basement of a raised ranch home. The length of wall removed is 11.50 ft. x 3.5 inches. Directly above is kitchen/living room. How thinck does an LVL beam need to be to replace this wall, and what is required to fix beam in place so that my ceiling doesn't cave in. Any advice is appreciated, since I am doing this for the second time...the first time I had sagging and had to replace all drywall. Please respond. I need help!

I would suggest that you call in a civil engineer or a plan check engineer from your local bldg. dept. Either can assess the ENTIRE structure and determine the proper beam for this application. Obviously, if you are doing this for the second time, there is a lot more load there than you realize!

Lefty is right. If you do not get professional help there very quickly, your roof will be in your basement.
