plaster walls
#1
I want to finish the walls of a remodeled room with plaster, using a finish coat over drywall rather than over lath and basecoat. I have heard of blueboard being the drywall to use for this job but cannot locate any suppliers (or even anyone that knows what it is.) Is this something that is still used or something from the past that has been replaced with a new product? If not available, can I use standard sheetrock, greenboard, or...??? Do I need to prime before applying plaster?

Iswenberg,
You are correct about the blueboard. What you are talking about is plaster veneers. us, national and canadian Gypsum all make it. It is available, although not readily in you area. You do not prime. You seal first. Plaster veneering is a "system" employing a number of labor intensive (some), but not difficult steps. I have found USG's Diamond system the best for my past purposes. Contact USG. A "how to" video is available for free from them. LOL Don.
