Question

Need some help here. Have a big bag of dry mud mix, and now realizing I should have bought the pre-mixed stuff. Is there any fundamental ratio here, or do you just mix "till it looks OK" and what would OK be?

mrpuma,

Hard to answer your question with the info given. There are many different types of dry mud with many different characteristics. Most bags do have instructions though. I generally mix to use and amount. I'll mix a wall topcoat much thinner then a mix for taping a ceiling. If using mechanical tools I'll mix thinner, to a point, then if mudding by hand. Use your best judgement, add water slowly until you like the consistency. Many tapers will add a shot of liquid dish soap to the mix. Aids in the mixing and ease of application. lol
