Lightbulb Raise 2nd flr ceiling attic-- possible?

I am thinking of raising my 2nd floor bedroom ceilings (currently 7'-0" high). Above is an attic with only door hatch access. Is it conceivable to rip out the attic floor above the bedrooms and raise it without reworking the upstairs/roof structure; or is it simply case dependent on the specific type of roof structure? Should an caprenter be able to do this work even someone with little experience.

Anything is possible with enough knowledge and money. Things to consider: How tall is your roof above the ceiling? The ceiling joists may be acting like a truss system and be structural in nature. Best to have a knowledgeble carpenter look and let you know.
