Here's my original question: I cut out a 12"x12" piece of sheetrock from the ceiling in my closet. I would like to "finish" the edges of both the panel and the opening to prevent the dust/powder from getting everywhere when I access the panel. Ideas? Thanks

I'm finishing my basement and have just finished insulating. When I start hanging drywall, should I use drywall adhesive on the studs? My Time-Life home improvement book shows that as a step. However, I was talking to a handy friend of mine and he said it is not necessary unless I'm tring to reduce the number of drywall screws being used. And personally I don't see the point of the expense as one would think the screws would be more than adequate? If adhesive is advised, how should I apply it to the studs as my inspector required me to overlap the insulation's vapor barrier over the studs to make a better vapor barrier seal?
