hanging drywall
I want to hang drywall in my basement. It presently has wood paneling with a drop ceiling . My question is do I have to remove the wood paneling first before I install or can I hang on top of wood paneling and if so what is the advantage and disadvantage of both. I no longer want the drop ceiling so I know to remove first in either case.

The only dissadvantage to hanging over the paneling is with your moldings. You will have to remove and re cut or replace the baseboards and door casing. If you do hang over the paneling be sure to screw through the paneling into the studs. That will insure a tight hang.

I will consider taking drywall down before hanging drywall I'm not that good at using stud finder to screw drywall into studs I cannot locate seems to be a lot of guess work involved.
