Need advice partitioning off living room!!!

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to this forum so take it easy on me ... I just moved into a nice 2br place in an apartment building with 2 other roommates, and I'm living in the living room to save costs. We have a pretty big living room and would like to partition off an area of 12' wide x 8" high. Any ideas? Our budget is about $200-$300. Here are some requirements of the makeshift "wall":

1. sturdiness
2. ease of implementation
3. soundproofing (well, to some degree)

Thanks!

Hello sharkera and welcome to the fray. First thing, what's allowed in your lease? Landlords can be funny about adding walls w/o permission. Given that it's ok with him, would need a bit more info to advise on specifics. The main one being, how you gonna make a room with just adding one wall?

So if this is ok with the powers that be, give us some details & we can help ya out.
