1/2" vs 5/8" for basement ceiling

i'm a beginner with drywall, and am starting on a small basement storage room. the walls are up and i am thinking of drywalling the ceiling. there are no pipes or anything in this room. so the drywall would look nice and not cost that much. i have a bunch of 1/2". i have 16" centers, is it worth buying 5/8" drywall?? the room is probably 8'x5' or so. thanks for any help..

Unless there is a building code that demands 5/8" go with 1/2". Don't worry about it now but in the future hang the ceiling first then the walls.
