ceiling drywall

Can 3/8" drywall be installed over heavily textured ceiling? The existing texture is on a tongue & grooved wood ceiling.

How do you mean its heavily textured? From your description I would say It wouldn't look very good. But I am imagining something pretty bad.

If you go with the 3/8" board, you'll need to screw it off like every 8-10", pretty thin for a lid, really should use 1/2" or better yet 5/8" on lids, but since it's going over a solid surface, should be ok with the thinner stuff, just use more screws than normal like I said.

It'd also be a good idea to scrape the existing texture down to where you've got a pretty flat surface.
