framing a pony wall or half wall

I am going to frame a pony wall (half wall) to create more of a foyer in the entryway to my house. The height of the half wall will be about 38 inches and I'd like the length to be about 50 inches. My question is: is there anything special that I need to do to make this wall more secure beyond normal framing techniques? I have a friend who has a similar half wall in a business and his now sways back and forth when leaned on. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated?

Two things come to my mind. First is put a post on the end of it and tie it into the ceiling. The second is to tie it into the floor.
