Plaster to sheetrock joints

Put in a new bath tub two piece fiberglass. Sheet rocked up to plaster. Have taped the flat joints. I am ready to start finishing. Do I have to cover the tape with joint compond or can I use topping light and go fot the finishing?

You only use topping for the final top coat. Use light weight to coat. Or all purpose if you used it to tape and have some left over. The reason is that topping is really soft and cracks easily.
