vinyl and paneling in a trailer

I just posted about part of this under the Paneling & Trim forum:

http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=169735

In addition to the paneling, I also have one or two walls in most of the rooms of this trailer that are vinyl. I have the same problem there...thousands of nail holes. Some of the vinyl walls appear to have been primered. Others have been painted (and I do not know if they were primered first or not). Due to the sheer number of holes in the walls, my preference would be to texture the whole mess, and then paint. Is there anything specific I have to do before I can texture over vinyl?

Thanks!!

First you are going to have to prime everything before you try to patch it. Mud won't stick to the surface. Also you will have to fill all the holes before texture. I don't know of any texture that will cover like you want. After the holes are filled you can do a number of different textures or sand smooth and paint.
