Plywood Ceilings???

My house has acoustical tile ceilings, which I am going to remove. Since I have other projects going both inside and outside of my house I am thinking about testing this in my master bedroom: I will remove the tiles and install 1/4" plywood, then prime, followed by applying a light textured solution, then painting. (Might even add some faux beams.) Has anyone ever tried this? The ceiling is stripped with 1x4"s on 16" center so the plywood won't sag, hopefully. Does anyone think it will work? I'd like to get the textured sheetrock look, but without the added work and expense. Thanks for any advice.

That 1/4" plywood will sag. Also you will have to put oil based primer on so the wood won't bleed through. And every seam will crack. Plus a sheet of plywood is a lot more expensive than a sheet of drywall. Why not just hang sheetrock?
