Repair walls behind baseboards

Our house was flooded from a backed up drain. ServiceMaster extracted the water, removed the carpet and baseboards, and dried out the house with many fans and a big dehumidifier.

The sheetrock behind the removed baseboards is damaged in many places ( i.e., the wall no longer meets the floor or the sheetrock is dented or damaged from the use of a prybar).

New baseboards cover most of this damage but my question is . . . Should the walls be repaired before covering them with new baseboard?

Thanks, Karen

I would. It's easier to do the repairs with the baseboard gone. You will Probably want to prime the wall too.
