The ceiling in my house is plaster. The front room has ceiling tiles and once upon a time there must have been a water leak because the tiles in one area sagged. They finally fell. I want to pull the rest of them down and put up new tiles. My question is what can I use to remove the adhesive on the plaster ceiling? I have no clue what was used but the glue circles are about 1-1/2" to 2" diameter circles (and they put 4 per square geez!), and when I try to use a putty knife they just chip off in extremely small pieces.

 

Someone in an earlier post mentioned heating the glue up with a hair dryer. That might work.
