Suspended ceiling panels

In order to save money, is there anything wrong with cutting 2x4 panels in half to install in a 2x2 ceiling grid?

Also, what is the preferred method of cutting panels? Utility knife?

Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with it, so long as they fit into the grid nicely and show no cut edges.

Try both a circular saw and a jigsaw on a tile - try cutting with the face-down side of the panel down once, then again with that side up to see the different effect the saws have on the face. You'll likely find one way that cuts cleaner.

It's possible that the stuff will snap like drywall if you score it with a utility knife, place that edge on a table/bench with a sharp edge, and snap down.

You definitely cut it with a utility knife. Make sure you change the blade often. If you are using regular panels (not decorative) then no problem.
