painting cement blocks

Hi There: I am fixing up my basement bathroom and I have one wall (outside) of my shower was made from concrete blocks.....This wall is pretty solid and in good shape overall. There are a few blocks that have chips and need repair? Is there a specific patch that I can use (similar to drywall?) The wall has previously been painted. Once I patch, do I need to prime it and is there a specific concrete primer.....and then I can paint it....Since the inside of this wall is the shower, is the any preventative maintenance against water.....The shower is dry and there are no leaks right now..........thanks so much

Home depot (among others) has a product for this. It is called quickwall. You will find it in the concrete section. Basically it is white portland cement with fiberglass in it. It is designed to do exactly what you want. You don't have to paint it but I would. It will look better.
