First thing, I love the site. I am redoing a carport that was enclosed 20+ years ago. The ceiling is 1/4 plywood 24in oc. Can I glue and screw 1/4 drywall right to it? The space above is very cramped and is already got insulation down so I don't want to take the plywood down.

I am finishing my basement and am about to put up the drywall....Total wall height is 8'8" and i will be installing a suspended ceiling in this room with a drop of about 8 inches to hide ductwork. So my wall height will be about 8'...should I install the drywall vertically so that i only have tapered seams? Or should I do it horizontally and have some butted seams? I realize most books say that the horizontal way will have less joints to tape but in my case one way I will hvae no butt joints and the other way i will have some. Thanks for any info. I will also probably be contracting out the taping and mudding. Thanks Lou
