Seamless Ceilings

Hello All.

I have Rhinoboard ceilings (gypsum) that are joined with aluminium strips. I would like to create a seamless look without the aluminium strips. I was told that the way to go is to pull the strips off and then smoothen the joins with Plaster of Paris. Does anybody have some ideas on how to do this?

Rhinoboard is a backer board for under tile, you've got this on the ceilings, it's 1/4" thick fiber cement product if we're talking about the same thing. You could remove the strips and tape the joints with a mesh tape, then texture the ceiling to further hide the seems.
