Question how to move wall

My laundry room wall backs up to our garage and I would like to move that wall into our garage by about 2 feet to accommodate cabinets. The garage floor is 2 feet lower than the laundry room floor. We are in the planning stage and need some advise on how and were to start? and what I need to be weary of?

Hello and welcome to the forums. First thing I can think of is that the wall in question between the occupied space of the home & the garage is most likely a load bearing wall. If this is the case, you can't simply tear the wall out & move it without providing temporary support in order to make sure the ceiling, roof, etc don't sag or worse yet come down during the course of the construction. You need to determine whether or not this is a load bearing wall before you proceed any further.

How do I tell if this is load bearing wall? If it is, should I not move the entire wall, but build an opening with a header and leave a foot or so on each side to support the ceiling? (I guess similar to on opening between two rooms)

Be safe and treat the wall as if it's loadbearing, the footer isn't needed. The header is a must, how wide is the proposed opening to be? This will determine what size lumber you should use for the header. Generally it's either 2"x10" or 2"x12", they doubled with 1/2" plywood sandwiched in between for a spacer to flush it out with the rest of the wall framing. Hope that helps, keep us posted.
