Wall Options for Fireplace

Hi:

I had a old looking brick faced wall , which has a fireplace.
I took down the drywall, and the fake bricks to get a new look for the wall and am ready to re-do the walls.

What are my options on building the new wall.. Can experts suggest ? There are what I have in my mind..

1. Sheetrock, Spackle and Paint to match the Rest of the room
2. Sheetrock and Wall Paper
3. Sheetrock and Bricks again
4. Wall Tiles
5. Anything else ?

Remember, I have to use a fire-coded material ( panels are not allowed)

Thanks,

Is this a manonry wall now? Is it frame construction? Steel studs?
I like plaster but I also like to show off a firelplace so would probabaly make it brick again. That is a personal preferrence. How large is the wall? How large is the fireplace opening? The entire fireplace?

well depending on the size of the room that you have

a Field Stone Looks very Nice in comparison to brick......

Is this a wood burning fireplace? If so make sure above all you are safe.

I like some of the pictures Lockpicker linked to. There are other options along those lines. Some stone or fake stones add quite a bit of weight. You might have to add some reinforcing. Some can be stuck with adhesive some with mortar. If they are stuck with mortar then you need a base that the mortar will bond to either by suction of mechanical bond.

At this point your options are open so look around and see what you like and what the prices are then make a decision.

Let us know what you do and maybe post some before and afters?
