Wainscot wall treatment Question

I'm thinking of installing a 3/16" wainscot on the lower bathroom dry wall area. The product seems to be lauan with a painted finish. The product recommends a hard backing surface. Would green board meet the requirement, along with liquid nail adhesive? Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

The reason for a backer is the wainscotting isn't stiff enough to be used by itself. The existing wall meets this requirement. If there is no wall now use the same drywall you intend to have above it.
